The Spirit of Love

12/5/2019

By Rev. Olivia Armstrong

December is the only month when people have the most compassion and do good deeds of extraordinary actions.
Though some may be sad, bringing them cheer might make them glad.
It’s a time when the world tries to seek peace; sending their love is so mystique.
Children are at their best, knowing that day they will be blessed.
The world shuts down…for that one day…to stop killing.
A day of peace and forgiveness of the heartache and pain that drives so many insane.
People, communities and organizations go out of their way to help put a smile on faces,
where some have no places.
The Spirit of December needs to pervade all year ‘round.
It will change the face of the universe and stop the miserable unhappy frowns.
The Spirit of Christmas brings friends and family together, no matter what kind of weather.
I know, it’s so commercialized…people spending money and going into financial debt,
for the alleged tradition of “Love” just to share you “care.”
But God knows that’s not fair.
Some have it and some don’t. It puts people in a medical slump.
So let’s start this today…keeping the month of December alive another way.
All year ‘round…do kind acts. Help a neighbor when you see the hunger facts… that’s giving back.
Send a card to those that no one knows (ie. vets, elderly, orphans, homeless).
Give a smile to some unfortunate child.
Give a call to those who have experienced an unfortunate fall.
Say a word of encouragement to those who have no friends, and shut-ins.
Send a gift of love to those rarely thought of.
Take a day to help volunteer with children, just to show you care.
Let’s give that spirit of love and peace a yearly lease.
Do something daily to help heal Mother Earth.
Stop the government from polluting…a raging curse.
Let’s find in our hearts the Love of God, and spread it around
to make it world renowned.
Peace

Ms. Olivia, RHC Director Attacked by coyote, seeks support

View Campaign to raise $10,000 to support her medical expenses.

Rev. Olivia Armstrong is a life-long social justice advocate, a beloved and respected community activist, a healer and herbalist, and Director of a small non-profit called the Rainbow Healing Center.  A little while ago she moved from Ithaca, NY to Columbia, SC where she has already organized a new community garden and a new food pantry at her apartment complex. She also grows, harvests and packages medicinal herbs which she sells to support the work of the Rainbow Healing Center.

Early on the morning of Sunday, September 1, Ms. Olivia was standing on her front porch, talking with a few neighbors.  Suddenly she felt a stab at the back of her leg and turned around to see a wild coyote locked on to her leg by the teeth. Her neighbors yelled at her, “Run Ms. Olivia! Run!” She began running down the walkway but “the coyote was right on me.” She tripped and fell hard on the pavement, breaking her wrist and smashing her right foot. The coyote kept on biting her leg and it's a miracle it didn’t go for her head or face.

Thankfully, a neighbor grabbed a stick and started hitting the coyote. The coyote turned and began to go after the neighbor, who lured him away from Ms. Olivia, and was also bitten. Another neighbor had jumped up on top of a nearby car and was calling 911. Ms. Olivia crawled over to the car, bleeding, but was too badly injured to climb up to safety.  Then she heard 5 gunshots as the coyote was finally killed. She waited by the car until EMS came to transport her to the hospital.

The coyote tested  positive for rabies.

Ms. Olivia requires 24 hour care for at least the next 10 days while her wounds are healing and she is undergoing treatment for rabies. She is currently being cared for by family members at their home, but she needs to return to her own home as soon as possible.

She is asking for help with  the costs of home care, and the medical supplies and other related expenses needed for her recovery.  She also needs help making up for the income that will be lost over the next many weeks while she is unable to harvest and process medicinal herbs.  Any funds raised over and above basic expenses will be donated to the non-profit Rainbow Healing Center to support the expansion of the RHC Community Garden and its programs.

Thank you for supporting Reverend Olivia Armstrong and  her work with the Rainbow Healing Center.

This summer, Rainbow Healing Center of America, Inc has been working in Columbia, South Carolina with young children on a community garden project. Neighbors and children living in the community are learning how to care for plants and herbs, how to harvest (they especially love the raspberries), and maintain the soil.

The Rainbow Healing Center (and a 3-year-old granddaughter helper) have also helped stock this housing community's first-ever Food Pantry. See photos below!
